The History of the Ford Motor Company
The history of the Ford Motor Company begins back in October of 1908. This is when the first practical automobile, the Model T, was introduced to the market. Ford had made experimental cars before this model, but none of them where sensible for the average American. From 1908 to 1927 Ford produced 15 million cars. The first car cost about $825 dollars which is about
$19,000 dollars today. It could only go 45 mph and had about 20 horsepower.
Shortly following the Model T was the Model A. It had a different style and had the option of a station wagon design. It had a larger engine, hydraulic brakes, column changes, and suspensions. World War II caused production in Ford cars to slow down until 1949.
From the 1950s on, the history of the Ford Motor Company really took off as they introduced new colors, higher speeds, and two or four door options. In 1950 the Ford Thunderbird was introduced, it could reach speeds of 113 mph.
From here on out, Ford spread into many different designs and styles including the Falcon, which was one of the first compact cars. In the 1960’s the Ford Mustang first came out with a price of $2,480 dollars. The first model succeeded in selling 500,000 models in its first year and half and has remained a top car ever since.
From here on out, Ford spread into even more models and began to make four wheel drive trucks like the Bronco, Jeep, F series, and the Ranger. Through the history of the Ford Motor Company, it has remained a top leader in car manufacturing.
