2011 Lincoln MKX on display at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show

January 21st, 2010

Ford unveils a new version of the Lincoln MKX at the 2010 auto show in Detroit. The 2011 model of the Lincoln MKX gets an upgrade in all aspects— exterior, interior, engine, and technology.

The new MKX looks like a totally different vehicle when seen from the front. The front fascia has been freshened up and the redesigned split wing grille gives it a distinctive look. The headlamps receive an HID treatment while the tail lamps use LED. The hood and more contoured lines of the sides give it a more aggressive stance. The oval exhaust tips give it a sportier appeal.

The Lincoln MXK has a Ford V-6 3.7L Duratec power plant under its hood. The engine makes use of new systems like the Ti-VCT or Twin Independent Camshaft Timing to give the car some more power and torque without sacrificing excellent fuel economy.

The new MKX has a better output of 305 horsepower with a 280 lb-ft of torque. The numbers are 15% (for the horsepower) and 12% (torque) better than the previous release. The powerful engine is paired with an automatic transmission with six speeds with an option to go on pseudo manual mode. The 2011 MKX has a fuel rating of up to 25 mile per gallon while cruising on the highway.

September 27th, 2009

When the 2010 GT500 Ford Mustang was release in January, it was just a matter of time before motorsports firm Shelby Automobiles toys with it. During the recent Mid America Ford car show in Oklahoma, Shelby unveiled the blue Mustang in blue equipped with the Super Snake 725hp package.

Shelby fixed a supercharged to the donated coupe and boosted the power of the DOHC V8 5.4L engine to 725hp. Their mechanics also tweaked the car with better radiator and intercooler, JBA exhaust system, and cold air intake.

The Ford tuner company also produced a tamer 630hp variant which uses Borla exhaust instead of the JBA.

Adjustable dampers were also installed to provide the ride with better handling. This came with stiffer springs, tougher anti-roll bar, and some tower brace for the front strut. The Super Snake deal also comes with customized 20-inch rims in combo with P-Zero Perelli rubbers.

Lincoln opts for smaller cars and crossovers

September 15th, 2009

Lincoln is looking in a different direction and aims to produce smaller vehicles as sales figures of large units and the Navigator drop over time. You might be seeing the smallest cars donning the Lincoln badge in the near future. It will be a very bold move as other luxury car makers have veered away from rolling off small cars to a U.S. market which might not be ready for them yet.

Lincoln might have some surprises for its market in the near future to push the brand back to prominence. There is a loud buzz that the car maker is planning to release a compact which will be deriving its DNA from Ford. There hasn’t been any confirmation though if it will be used as the global platform for the Focus.

The car manufacturer have concept cars exploring the idea of providing smaller cars for consumers but these vehicles still need to go into production. Experts are not sure if Lincoln will roll the dice and take the risk to assemble these vehicles.

Ford sales figures rise for the first time in 19 months

August 7th, 2009

As sales reports come in this August, the auto industry is expected to report not more than 10 million sold units. Ford recently announced that its total sales are up by 2% and year-on-year jumped by as much as 9%. The improvement in the performance is partly attributed to the government’s Cash for Clunkers program.

The 9% increase in retail sales from August 2008 to this year marks the first recovery of the figures since November 2007. Aside from citing the CARS, Ford also looks to the new and more fuel efficient members of their fleet.

What gives perspective to the jump up in sales figures is the projected 10 million units rolling out of dealerships. The volume prediction is about a 40% drop from the 2008 figures. The overall figure is seen to have risen 2% from the November 2007 sales reports.

Check out any part of the world and you shall not be able to find a place where Ford cars are not available. Ask any auto enthusiast about the Ford model T and see the glimmer in their eyes.
